About the event
From Sappho to the Buddha to Joy Division, everyone agrees that love will tear us apart.
Yearning to experience the erotic, but desperate to survive it, we erect fortifications to protect ourselves—we keep things casual so that we can hold each other at arm’s length whilst we’re holding each other close, or we do serious relationships so that we can control the terms of our surrender.
But none of these defensive strategies work—to the extent that self-preservation is achieved, love is averted. That’s because the whole meaning of erotic desire is to jackhammer away at the walls that keep you safe and cut you off from those around you.
In this first session of Sexistentialism we will talk about:
How we can take care of ourselves when doing the most dangerous things
What is acceptable risk in love and sex
